Gifts for the equestrian are among the hardest. Because it is always more than just a sport, indeed its an all-consuming passion, to those involved in it… equestrian gifts are the obvious choice… but often so confusing for those on the periphery like Moms and Dads, husbands or siblings. Technical products are out, unless you intend to drag the trainer along shopping with you. Plus things like that are – if indeed needed – likely already owned.
Among my inspirations for Oughton were providing equestrian gifts to the loved ones of equestrians across the country who were left spinning in the face of what clothing, tack or other horse accessory might be an appropriate ‘equestrian gift’. As may have happened to some of you, for years I was given well-meaning but completely misdirected ‘equestrian gifts’ by an aunt who rightly recognized if it wasn’t about horses I had no use for it. Of course, once beyond the teen years, most of us blossom into well-rounded adults (ha) but equestrian lifestyle accessories (especially if not too ‘striving’ or overplayed) is a direct way to our hearts, pulling directly on the string labelled ‘first love’.
