I love the idea of deferring some of the holiday gifting to Valentine’s Day. There is a point of diminishing returns on Christmas morning. Especially if you have young kids in the house, you stay pretty busy, helping them open, appreciate and get working all of their new toys… And, let’s face it, the whole Christmas break can be more exhausting than relaxing for many parents. Come early February, a quick trip might be just what the doctor ordered. For some this could be a Vermont ski getaway to the Equinox Resort in Manchester VT, with equal parts spa time, good meals and ski time. For me, it is always the beach. Whether its South Beach for a long weekend or a trip further south, it can be an important recalibration. Although trite – also very true – life goes quickly: make it happen while you can. The idea of a tradition is also very nice – a ‘reconnect’ to look forward to each year. And, of course: for Valentines gifts for the equestrian, tap into what occupies their heart (oh yeah, other than you and the kids) – HORSES. It will be worn/carried with pride and joy.
